Certification Process

IBCCES delivers the global standard for training and certification in the fields of autism, neurodiversity, and accessibility, ensuring that organizations receive evidence-based, comprehensive training that enhances their ability to recognize, respond, and support individuals with empathy and proactive engagement, offering the highest level of service. For organizations seeking IBCCES certification, at least 80% of public-facing staff must complete specialized training and certification, and the organization must undergo an on-site review, as well as show dedication to accessibility with a commitment to ongoing professional development.

The IBCCES Certified Autism Center tm (CAC) certification recognizes organizations that have a highly trained staff and are fully equipped to serve the fastest growing population of developmental disorders.

Every Certified Autism Center tm meets the following requirements:

  • Dedicated to serving individuals with autism
  • At least 80% of staff trained and certified in the field ofautism
  • Is committed to ongoing training in autism

An onsite review by IBCCES experts includes a comprehensive report with suggested changes or modifications to better serve individuals on the spectrum, as well as sensory guides for activities.

The Advanced Certified Autism Center™ designation recognizes organizations that have completed the CAC program, as well as the following additional steps:

  • Leadership and high-contact staff havea  minimum of 40 hours of autism training
  • Annual onsite facilities audit by IBCCES professionals
  • Has made substantial accommodations and updates to procedures and physical space to ensure accessibility
  • Annual onsite review by IBCCES experts includes a comprehensive report with suggested changes or modifications to better serve individuals on the spectrum, as well as sensory guides for activities.
  • Provides ongoing special services and modified activities for visitors with autism

The IBCCES Down Syndrome Center of Excellence™ (DSCE) program recognizes organizations that have highly trained staff and are fully equipped to support people living with Down Syndrome, the most commonly diagnosed chromosomal condition in the world.

Every DSCE meets the following requirements:

  • Dedicated to serving individuals with Down syndrome
  • Committed to ongoing specialized training in Down syndrome (renewal requirement every 4 years)
  • At least 80% of patient-facing staff are trained and certified in the field of Down syndrome
  • An onsite review by IBCCES experts includes a comprehensive report with suggested changes or modifications.

The IBCCES Accreditation for Comprehensive Student Wellbeing™ (ACSW) is a specialized school-level accreditation that includes a robust professional development program designed to equip educators with the knowledge, skills, and tools necessary to foster a supportive, inclusive, and mentally healthy learning environment for all students.

Each ACSW meets the following requirements:

  • Ensure 80% of student-facing staff complete IBCCES training & certification
  • Participate in a facilities audit to ensure the school environment supports student wellbeing
  • Commit to ongoing professional development & training refreshers during Accreditation term
